Visas & Border Requirements
Visas are the most important step in preparing for your Five Stans adventure. Here you’ll find clear instructions for your Turkmenistan Letter of Invitation (LOI), passport photo requirements, and what to expect when arriving at Ashgabat airport. We’ve also included guidance on border crossings—from the route you’ll take to the practical tips that make the process easier.
What We Do vs. What You Must Do
-
Our role: We’ll guide you through the LOI process and make sure your application is submitted.
-
Your role: It’s important that you also meet all other entry requirements for Turkmenistan, such as:
-
Having a passport valid for at least six months beyond your stay
-
Checking if your nationality requires any additional visas
-
Following local customs and immigration rules
-
Turkmenistan Letter of Invitation (LOI) & Visa Requirements
When you log into your Traveller Hub, you’ll find the Letter of Invitation (LOI) form.
This document is essential for your Turkmenistan visa, so please take the time to read it carefully and answer every question in full. We’ve added guidance notes within the form to make it as easy as possible to complete. Providing everything accurately will help avoid unnecessary delays.
What You’ll Need to Upload (at least 90 days before departure)
Please upload the following documents to your Traveller Hub:
-
A clear colour copy of your passport (showing your full name, passport number, and data strip)
-
The fully completed LOI form
-
A recent, standard passport photo (see below for requirements)
👉 To keep your travel plans on track, it’s important that everything is uploaded by the deadline. Missing or incorrect information may cause delays and could result in a $250 AUD per person late processing fee.
Passport Photo Requirements
Getting your passport photo right is essential for your Letter of Invitation and visa application. To avoid delays, please follow these requirements carefully: Size & Proportions
Quality
Background & Lighting
Pose & Expression
Glasses & Hearing Aids
|
Note: We strongly recommend getting your passport photo taken at a post office for the best chance of meeting all requirements.

- Visa processing and formalities may take over an hour, and procedures can sometimes feel a little unstructured or unpredictable.
- Visa rules and entry requirements can change. We recommend checking the official Turkmenistan government websites as well as our Visa Information Page regularly.
